Frequently asked questions

Q) Is BellyDance just for women?

A) Not, not at all.  There are more and more Men trying out American Tribal Style Bellydance nowdays and you will find lots of professional and non professional Male Cabaret Bellydancers.

Q)  Do you have to be young to do this?

A) No. Tribal Style Bellydance is for all ages, all shapes and sizes.  You learn at your own pace.

Q)  Do I have to learn choreography?

A)  Never, Tribal Bellydance is a completely improvised style of dance!  Once you have learn and mastered the steps
(which we call a volcabulary of movements) you are able to put them together on the spot to whichever music you
are dancing to.
It doesn't matter where in the world you are, if you find a group of ATS dancers you are fully able to join in with them, even when you can speak the language :)

Q)  What do I wear for classes?

A) Anything which is not too tight fitting and restrictive.  Yoga pants, joggers, leggings, a full skirt, vest top etc is idea to start with.  It's always best to wear layers, it gets warm!!
After a while of attending classes most people start to dress with hip scarves, kuchi belts, full layered skirts as they become more involved with the style. (not compulsary)

Q)  Do I wear shoes?

A)  Bare feet are best but a pair of soft dance shoes or foot thongs are fine, socks work too for practise.

The main thing is to come along, be comfortable and have fun!!!!!
